In an effort to take steps towards environmental and economic sustainability, we now offer an organic and fair trade Colombian coffee from the Magdalena region. COAGRONEVADA (Cooperativa de Caficultores y Agricultores de la Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta) is a group of 21 cooperatives that pass down their coffee growing techniques generation to generation. Growing coffee in a war torn area, many indigenous farmers destroy their coffee farms in order to grow illegal cash crops. By offering fair trade, farmers are financially able to grow and improve their coffee business, providing generational wealth and stability. Premiums paid allow farmers to develop organic fertilizers and pesticides to prevent leaf rust, as well as improve the homes of their families.
Our organic, fair trade Colombia coffee is shade grown at 3,300 - 4,000 feet. It is marked with notes of toffee, a berry aroma, and a creamy body. A honey-like sweetness keeps this medium roast perky on the palate.
The 62 Continental has been a blend since the early 70's and our cafe scene. Like the car, fast- solid-cool, we look for the boldest, exciting, full-powered, washed, hard-bean, high-grown coffees with intense flavor. Roasting into the second crack to caramelize those sugars and create the signature bitter-sweetness, this coffee mix easily stands up to the additions of ice, cocoa & milk with bold acceleration. We'd recommend a 1.25 ounce double shot pulled 25-30 seconds, or a cold brew overnight for a concentrate that definitely wakes up like a convertible on a cool morning drive.

From the Cerrado of Minas region, Carlos Thomas Brasilero grows his coffee. Using the natural, traditional, methods of fermentation the coffee develops a sweetness and fruit characteristic that lingers on and on. Using RFA, Rainforest Alliance, certification a mandate for sustainable ecological and economic improvements is built into the farming practices. The nature and layout of the Fazenda farm means the ripest of coffee cherry can be picked and sundried on the patios. The fruit dries and acts to enhance the flavor in the bean. Once dried, it is hulled and placed into wooden silos for the "reposo" or resting period. 45 days later, lot samples are taken and bags are filled for export. Arriving on the west coast, the coffee will be in a state of shock. After climatization, the coffee is released to Cafe Moto Roasters. Moto likes naturals for a "Dulce", sweet, fruity character similar to a bing cherry with the mildest of acidity. Brazil works well wherereduced acidity is the key. We use it as a base for our Giro D' Italia espresso, "smooth through the curves". * The Rainforest Alliance works to conserve biodiversity and ensure sustainable livelihoods by transforming land- use practices, business practices and consumer behavior.

and flavor stability above the Fair Trade base price and the quality incentive. Each October , pre-harvest, we meet and make the arrangements for the upcoming crop. Llano Bonito Cooperative continues to deliver the sweet, vibrant, strong chocolate orange tasting coffee. We use Llano Bonito in the French 2 dark roast FT, Espresso Moto FT and to brighten several other Moto mixes. The power of the relationship and the Fair Trade economics have meant clean drinking water, a medical clinic, books and school supplies and really great coffee since we met in early 2002.

About the farm: The unique micro-climate where Reserve Llano Bonito is cultivated and the strict quality control checks from the farm to port have earned the co-op notoriety in specialty coffee. By guaranteeing quality, the co-op can promise better and more sustainable prices for members’ coffee. Llano Bonito is also committed to protecting the environment where their coffee is produced and recently implemented an oven to dry the coffee, using natural waste, such as coffee parchment, instead of wood, to fuel the machine.
